Joe Ortiz (98 - present) and Kevin Falconer (98-99) were high school teammates at Calvary Chapel. Kevin's dad Craig was their coach. This article at Socalhoops is from December 3, 1997 and makes predictions for Joe's senior season in high school.

A summary of the dramatic 1998 upset of UCSB is found here on Total Sports. Corey Blick made three foul shots with one second remaining.....

Brian Gomes was rated a "Hot Player" for the week of February 18 - 24 from www.proexposure.com after averaging 21 points and 15 rebounds over a three game stretch when he was with the Winnipeg Cyclones. Click here to read the "Who's Hot" listing.

More randomness, but focused randomness is what a blog is all about. CNNSI still has the final NAIA rankings from 1998 - 99 posted on their site. Westmont was ranked 9th in this poll, but officially finished 3rd after a strong run in the NAIA Tournament.

This is really random, but you can actully purchase a copy of the 1994 - 95 NAIA Tournament Media Guide through Amazon.com. Check it out here.

Sportstats.com has a listing of Great NAIA Teams of the Past and two Westmont teams are listed. The 1983 - 84 team and the 1998 - 99 team are both listed. Other GSAC teams are also noted. Follow this link to check it out.

Anyone who is interested in looking at stats from the 1983 - 84 Westmont Warriors (31-4) should follow this link.

Brian Gomes is playing in New Zealand right now. He said that he has been playing well and that he will likely end up with the North Harbour Kings in Aukland next.

Next season the Master's College joins the GSAC. This move balloons the GSAC up to 11 teams. League play is rumored to start as early as November next year.

A correction is in order. Brian Gomes did not play in China with Chris Gonzales. Chris got back this weekend and really enjoyed the fellowship and the opportunity to play in China. The trip lasted 3 weeks and 11 games were played.

Ryan Monroe & Robin Eley both earned NAIA All-American Scholar Athlete status this year. Read more about it here. Both players are two year recipients of the award. Congrats!

It is rumored that Joe Ortiz is learning the electric guitar. If anyone hears a masterpiece from him, let me know.

Upon further review, the GSAC Sports page may be useful to quickly summarize this year and the tournament. Check it out here.

On a note related to the National Tournament, congrats to the Westmont Women's team for making it to nationals. Quite an awesome turn around!

This update is a bit late, but if you didn't follow the NAIA Tournament you may find this useful. The GSAC was well represented again this year. However, there should have been four teams instead of three. If the NAIA had an RPI rating Westmont would make it every year. Christian Heritage, BIOLA, and Azusa Pacific all made it. Christian Heritage did excellent and made it to the Final Four. For the other results you can look at the NAIA Tournament Site here.

Will Westmont keep with the Princeton style offense or switch back to a more traditional approach? Suddenly the team has an inside presence and a question mark on the perimeter. When was the last time that happened?

Westmont seniors made 155 of 210 three pointers this season (Blick, Eley, Monroe). Who will fill the void?
